“I want to build my own way. Let me have fun, leave me alone. Let me live my life the way I want to. Someday I won’t be able to enjoy this. Nobody understands, boxing is the only place where I run around and say, “Hey, I’m better than you.” After fights, I’m looking for my peace of mind like everyone else would. I’m a family man taking care of my mother and father and brother and sister. I got my son. I mean, what the hell am I doing wrong? Am I robbing banks? Am I drugging out? Do I drink in my corner? Am I really that bad?”

I grew up watching his fights on TV with my dad and my uncle, who was a boxer in his youth himself and kinda reminded me of him. I remember always rooting for him and being happy that he was “Boricua”…my dad was always amazed at his speed. My mom always commented that when she met my dad, he had that same curl in his hair that Camacho had. Sucks that he went the way he did, but I guess it was always in the realm of possibilities when you live your life a certain way…that’s something I’ve personally seen a lot of. My condolences to his family.
