“In spite of my attempts to improve, fight promoters didn’t seem to feel I was good enough to draw a crowd. It was discouraging, though natural. Fights can be arranged only when there is enough fight interest to pay expenses and leave a profit for the promoter. In any city of a certain size, only about so many paying fights can be staged in one year or month. With literally hundreds of fighters available, the competition is terrific. Only fighters that promoters think will draw a crowd are wanted.”
